Hunzeker Frameables

Compact discs (CDs) manipulated and made into earrings, bracelets and necklaces are some of the most popular items Hunzeker Frameables produces. This jewelry is very durable and has the reflective qualities of a CD.
Earrings are also made from non-working computer keyboards and pieces of vinyl record albums. Newly introduced items include earrings and pendants made from recycled glass bottles.
In addition to recycled jewelry, Hunzeker Frameables creates bowls from unplayable record albums. A special technique is used to create smooth-sided bowls that make great candy dishes or can be used for dry foods such as popcorn. The record album covers are recycled into coaster sets. Album covers that cannot be made into coasters as well as the record sleeves are added in with other paper and used to create handmade greeting cards featuring original photographs.
The plastic materials that are recycled into new products are kept out of landfills where they would take a significant amount of time to decompose. At the same time, people who wear jewelry or use other items made with recycled items help create an awareness of recycling and "green" living.
Items from Hunzeker Frameables can be purchased at the Haymarket Farmers' Market (Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon, May 1 through Oct. 9). Certain products are also available at Lincoln businesses including Here and Back Again, From Nebraska Gift Shop and Sassy Consignment and Gift Boutique. Orders, including special requests, can also be made on Hunzeker Frameables' web site or by e-mail.
