Flavors Stop: Cedar Hills Vineyard
If you’re looking for a great adventure with food and nature, Cedar Hills Vineyard is a great place to go. They grow a wide variety of fruits from aronia to Saskatoons. Then you add strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, gooseberries and 12 varieties of wine and table grapes.
Then they do amazing things with this fruit, from pie, jelly, and jam to wine. You can visit the tasting room and see what’s in season. Joyce&Paul Sears report they have about a week left to picking wine strawberries; the next fruit will be black and red raspberries, which are blooming now. The fruit will be set on in late June-early July, so if you’re a raspberry nut like me, that’s the time to visit! Ooh, raspberry cobbler…. My mouth is watering!
The location of Cedar Hills Vineyard is a treat in and of itself. Sitting on bluffs above the South Loup River east of Ravenna, you have an amazing view of a beautiful, winding river. Visitors are welcome to tour the farm and watch wildlife including bluebirds, eagles, deer, turkey and quail to mention a few of the regulars. Nature puts on a great show at Cedar Hills.
And the guesthouse! You can now spend the night at Cedar Hills, in a lovely guesthouse. Nature gives a whole new show after dark. If you like stargazing, this is the place for you. Get away from city or village lights, and the stars put on their best show. And as we get into July and August you have the chance to view an amazing meteorite shower every night.
