Flavors Stop: Springfield ArtWorks

This gallery features fiber and glass art by area artists. Visitors can take scheduled classes, participate in drop in activities and watch artisans at work.

Sometimes I think I’m a pretty tough broad, able to deal with whatever comes at me, with aggression if necessary.

Other times, I’m just a girl. I love beautiful things – jewelry, clothing, artwork.  I can get gooey just thinking about being surrounded by beautiful items.

One place I think of as providing that “surrounded by beauty” experience is Springfield ArtWorks. Margie and Glenn Trembley produce amazing glass and fiber art. Margie’s paintings on silk are exquisite, with a wide variety of colors and subjects. On their web site that section is titled “Wearable and Fiber Art” and it is definitely wearable art.

The glass art ranges from whimsical to sophisticated, fused glass ladybugs and frogs to swirls and a little bit of magic. The colors are vibrant and true, and the pieces are sure to please a wide audience. The style is always contemporary and fabulous. They also produce architectural glass, etched glass for tables and doors with a dramatic flair.

The Trembleys share their talents by teaching classes. According to their web site:  “Art is fun! Art reduces stress and provides an opportunity for unleashing your creative talents…plus it’s easy!”  That sounds like a fabulous teaching philosophy to me! Upcoming classes include beginning watercolor for the absolute beginner…no previous experience required…first timers only on July 12. On July 31 they are offering Wet Felted Flower. You can turn soft alpaca into a lovely flower for your favorite hat or coat.  This class introduces you to alpaca.  Be prepared to get a little wet…bring an apron if you like. The finished product is gorgeous! Call to reserve your spot and get the supply list for the painting class.

Springfield is not far from Omaha, it sounds like a great afternoon excursion to me. Stop by and check out the creativity on display and maybe turn your own creativity loose.
